On 4 September 28 of our finest members gathered at Laranjal Golf course to enjoy a beautiful day on a spectacular golf course. The course itself from tee to green was in its usual well manicured and prime condition. The greens had been recently aerated and were not rolling anywhere near the perfection they were very close to when we held an event here two weeks prior. This did not detract from some good scores or the feeling of anyone that attended that this is definitely one of the top courses in the Algarve. John Gilchrist and a few others managed some great scores. John managed 5 birdies enroute to 37 points and first place. Christophe Balland racked up 36 points for second, while an entire flock of others managed 35 points which required countback scenarios to determine the 3rd through 5th prize winners. In the end, Nick Coulson was awarded 3rd place and Steve Grant and Ian McAleese finished 4th and 5th respectively. Clive Davies cranked out the long drive of the day on the 10th hole and Fraser Graham stiffed one tight on 12 for nearest the pin honours and made it known to all that yes, he did convert the birdie putt. Also again, congratulations to Louise Graham for her first birdie ever which was very close to being a hole in one and had her husband Fraser doing fist pumps that it didn't go in, knowing the size of the crowd that would be waiting for their free round back at Chez Carlos. All in all, a great time had by all with the banter and good times expected of a good bunch of people from our Society. Extra thanks to others on the day go to Filipe and his staff for making this a wonderful occasion and treating our members to a great dinner with great service. Also, many thanks to Carlos himself for putting the event together and his support of the Society including a gift of a TeeTimes/Chez Carlos polo for each entrant. It was a great sight to look out on to the course and see our society members all wearing their bright green polos as they made their way around Laranjal even though some of the color combinations didn't quite match. Nothing like looking several fairways over to see some of our players and wishing we hadn't left our sunglasses in the car. I am very thankful to all for making it an awesome day and look forward to seeing you at Salgados on 8 September.
